Effective immediately, all national tournaments shall implement the newly approved rules of wrestling. The rules under which regional championships will be competed shall be determined by the respective regions.

The first of the USA Wrestling national events that will use the new FILA rules for freestyle and Greco-Roman will be the ASICS University Nationals and FILA Cadet Nationals, May 23-26.

Other national events this year which will utilize the new FILA rules include:
• Schoolboy/girl National Duals in Indianapolis, Ind., June 5-9
• Cadet National Duals in Daytona Beach, Fla., June 11-15
• ASICS U.S. Senior and Junior World Team Trials in Stillwater, Okla., June 21-23
• ASICS Kids Freestyle and Greco-Roman Nationals in Orem, Utah, June 24-26
• Junior National Duals in Oklahoma City, Okla., June 25-29
• ASICS/Vaughan Junior and Cadet Nationals in Fargo, N.D., July 12-20

The new FILA rules have some important similarities to the folkstyle wrestling procedures in the United States, including a cumulative score for bouts and two points for a takedown.

There are four Regional events remaining on USA Wrestling’s national schedule, in which the leaders in each Region will determine whether to use the old FILA rules or those which were passed by FILA this weekend.

PLEASE NOTE: The Southeast Regionals in Atlanta, Ga. this weekend, May 23-26, will be conducted under the old rules.

The decision on the rules used for the three remaining Regionals will be announced immediately on TheMat.com once it is available. This includes the Southern Plains Regionals in Dodge City, Kan., May 31-June 2, the Northern Plains Kids and Cadet Regionals in Waterloo, Iowa, June 13-15 and the Cliff Keen West Kids and Cadet Regionals in Pocatello , Idaho, June 16-22.

A live video stream will be available from The Rumble on the Rails, the international wrestling event featuring the United States, Iran and Russia from historic Grand Central Terminal in New York City on Wednesday, May 15.  This stream will be free of charge and hosted on TeamUSA.org, the official website of the U.S. Olympic Committee. Both events in Grand Central Terminal will be webcast live. The USA vs. Iran dual meet will be streamed at 3:30 p.m. ET, followed by the USA vs. Russia dual meet at 6:00 p.m.

QUALIFYING EVENT: CUSAW State Championships – 1st thru 4th place wrestlers at each weight class and style qualify for a wrestle off tournament/training camp for the CUSAW Schoolboy/girl, Cadet, and Junior National Teams.

REGISTRATION /ENTRY FEE: All competitors, pre-registered & walk ups must present their 2013 USA Wrestling card at registration. Pre-register online at www.trackwrestling.com/tw/registration/ for $25.00 per style/$40.00 for both Freestyle and Greco-Roman.  Online registration ends Thursday, May 16 at 10:00 PM Mountain Standard Time. Late Fee of $10.00 if registering at event ($35.00 per style/$50.00 for both styles). No refunds. No fax/satellite weigh-ins. All athletes must weigh-in at event.

ELIGIBILITY: All wrestlers must have current USA Wrestling Membership. USA Wrestling Membership (Competitor, Coaches and Officials) can be purchased or renewed online at www.usawmembership.com. ALL coaches with a “VALID” Bronze certified coaches card and current USAW Coaches. Membership will receive free admission. Pee Wee thru Schoolboy/Girl age divisions are required to wear headgear. Only the original doctors note (no copies), dated no later than Three (3) days of visit will be accepted for any skin issues. All wrestlers must have a red and blue or a red/blue reversible singlet to compete.

WEIGH-INS: Must weigh-in in a competition singlet. Wrestlers that register, weigh-in and compete in Greco-Roman do not need to weigh in for Freestyle.

Payments for National teams and or Fargo

Parents and Wrestlers, for those of you planning on attending one of the National Duals or Fargo (Cadet and Junior Divisions), CUSAW would like to spread the word on the process to sign up through trackwrestling.com for the payments. 

As a board CUSAW felt it would be the easiest and most transparent process to utilize trackwrestling’s software for paying deposits for these national team payments, and here are the steps to do that:

1. Log into www.trackwrestling.com and in the tournament search field enter CUSAW

2. Select the appropriate age division tournament … ie Schoolboy, Cadet, Junior, Women and hit enter

3. Click on the refund policy and read it over, and then click register now

4. Fill out information requested and submit credit card payment

If you are not sure if your wrestler is qualified for the national duals or Fargo, please contact your Age Division director, information is listed under Age Division tab for each director.  All wrestlers planning on attending Cadet/junior duals and or Fargo need to separately purchase the uniform package (Schoolboy uniforms are included in the payments already).  You can do so under the Uniform tab on the CUSAW’s main page.

Southern Plains

Southern Plains is the regional tournament the state of Colorado falls under.  Joined by many other Southern Plains area states in this competition, it is the qualifier for Kids Nationals (Schoolboy, Novice, Intermediate divisions).  This tournament has a prerequisite for youth wrestlers to attend Kid’s Nationals in July in Orem Utah.  In order to compete in Southern Plains, Colorado Kids (Schoolboy and younger) must attend the CUSAW State tournament May 17^th and 18^th in Pueblo.  Juniors and Cadets who win a regional are granted a spot to compete in Fargo as well.

Accommodations for Southern Plains in Dodge City KS are difficult to acquire, and CUSAW has blocked 25 rooms for Colorado families to book by May 17^th at a special rate of $55 a night.  In order to book one of these rooms, and given on a first come first reserved basis you’ll want to call the Travel Lodge directly at 877-361-2499 with a confirmation # of 36790504

Please note, the first 25 families to call will have the rooms reserved, and all reservations need to be done by May 17^th as the rooms will be released back to the general public after that date.
